Pro's And Con's Of Gel Nails

Hi,

When Maia was on vacation in Croatia she and a friend of hers decided to get their nail's done in a nail salon. First she wanted to have some kind of special nail art but eventually chose gel-nails with french manicure. Her friend chose gel nails too, but with fluo pink nail polish on them. It costed around €40, wich is a lot, but Maia thinks it was worth it.
Maia's really happy with them and still has hers (it's been like 4 weeks or something), but her friend, wasn't at all and took hers of after 4 days already. So you see, gel nails have both adventages and disadventages wich you must consider before getting your nails done.
We'll make a little list of them so you can decide yourself if gel nails are better than your own nails or not.

Let's start with the adventages:

-It stays very long. Most nail polish we tested out her stayed around 5 days, wich is not that long. The lady who did Maia's nails told her gel nails stay for 6 weeks. It's already been 4 weeks and they still look perfect, so she's probably right. Also the diamonds stay surprisingly long: they're all still there.

-Your nails look perfect. Especially the shape. Maia chose a square shape and she thinks she really could never make her own nails this perfectly square herself. They lose shape a bit after a while, though. Maia hers are a little rounder already, but they still look good. We made a post about nail shape's once, so when you're planning on getting gel nails you should really take a look at it. A square shape is really a classic for gel nails, but a bit rounder looks very cute too.

-You can still polish them in another color. You can just take the polish of with disolvant, just like with your normal nails and polish them again. Normal nail polish will also stay a lot longer than with your real nails. For excample, Maia's Essence nail polish stayed for a whole week, while this nail polish normaly only stays 2 or 3 days. So real good nail polish will probably stay for two weeks or something.

-You can always take them off when you're not happy with them. Like Maia's friend did. It's kind of a waste of money then, but if you really don't like them, you shouldn't keep them.

The disadventages:

-It costs a lot. Like we said already, Maia paid 40€ for them and she thinks it was worth it (altough it's a lot). Of course it costs way less when you just polish your real nails yourself, even if you buy a more expensive nail polish.

-They grow out. This is especially annoying with french manicure. After maybe a week you could see Maia's real nails through them. She polished them red afterwards and then you can't see it anymore ofcourse.

-You can see they're fake. Wich bothers Maia a little... When there's polish over them it looks less fake, but you can still tell because they're a little bit too perfectly shaped.

-It's actually really bad for your real nails. Maia only heard this after she had gel nails, otherwise she would probably not have got them. The treatment cause your nails to thin and they'll be very weak afterwards...Appearantly it takes 6 weeks for your nails to repair again.

-It can hurt when they break. It hasn't happened to the ones Maia has, but she heard about it.

-It's a bit clumpsy. Only at first, because you get used to it, but at first it really feels weird and there are some things you can't do with them.

The list of disadventages is longer, but that doesn't mean gel nails are bad. Maia's very happy with them, like we said already. She's only a little afraid that her nails will look very weak and unhealthy afterwards, but we'll see about that later. In the meantime she'll just enjoy having super perfect nails. :)

xoxo
